Children’s Day Celebration: NGO distributes sanitary pads to 100 girls in Kaduna

 By Stella Kabruk

An NGO, The creative Think Tank, on Monday distributed sanitary pads to 100 secondary girls in Kaduna State.

The Chairman of the organisation, Don- Oliveira Idahosa said the gesture was part of the activities to celebrate the 2024 International Children’s Day.

He said the programme, tagged ‘Pad a Girl child’, was conducted in collaboration was to celebrate the girl-child as special free gifts from God and to assist the vulnerables.

Idahosa said,”Pads should be given free to them,” urging that more emphasis should be placed on the girl-child.

He said there was less concern about the girl-child and urged parents to do more by giving them attention, saying, ”because, if they don’t, they will go elsewhere to get it.

” Think- Tank vision is to provide a platform for information sharing, exchange of ideas, knowledge creation and dissemination, and creating partnerships among think tanks.

”This is in order to individually and collectively develop evidence – based solutions to the pressing issues within the political space and development challenges facing Nigeria and Africa.”

Idahosa said the organisation has engaged over 30 indigent persons in skills acquisitions programmes and was looking forward to partnering with more organisations.

According to him, the organisation is concerned in investing in the youths for a better future.

Idahosa called on the government and other corporate bodies to partner with the organisation for better results.

In his remarks, President, Bounty Food for Hunger Relief Initiative, Makama Bulus, said the children’s day celebration was to raise awareness about their rights, education and welfare.

He said children were considered as the building blocks of a strong nation, saying, ”they are responsible citizens of tomorrow as development of the country lies in their hands.

” Children become the happiness of the society and home as well as the future of the country.we cannot ignore their involvement and contribution in the life of parents, teachers and other related people all through life.

” Children are liked by everyone and without children, life becomes very boring and upsetting.”

Bulus said children were small but had the capability to change the nation positively.

” Children are leaders of tomorrow and need to be respected, given special care and protection from their parents, teachers. and other members of the society.

”But, they are being abused in many ways by family members, relatives, teachers, neighbors and even strangers.”

He urged the parents to give their children proper care and love, a healthy living environment and a good level of education.

” Children are like buds in a garden and should be carefully and lovingly nurtured, as they are the future of the nation and leaders of tomorrow.

” A child loved today will spread the love tomorrow,”Bulus said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the beneficiaries were selected from nine secondary schools in Kaduna drawn from Sabo Tasha, Rido ,Narayi, Romi, Goni-Gora, Tudun Wada, Kakuri and Barnawa, among others. (NAN)
