10th assembly: APC must take strict stands to ensure its resolve respected by members - Arewa group

Agency Reports

By Sani Idris

A group under the auspices of Arewa Young Professionals in Politics, has said that for discipline to be ensured in the 10th National Assembly,  the APC must take strict stands to ensure that its resolve on issues are  respected by its  members.

Convener of  the group, Malam Yusuf Amoke, made the call while addressing newsmen on Thursday in Kaduna.

He said that, as the 10th National Assembly would  consequently kick start, there were discussions and alignments been made on the regions and persons to form the leadership of the assembly.

Amoke recalled that on April 6, they held a press conference where they called on the APC National Headquarters and the President-Elect to consider zoning the Senate President position to the South East and the Speaker of the National Assembly position to North West.

He explained that in the APC's wisdom and generosity, they  declined their request for a South East Senate President but granted the request for the speakership to be zoned to the North West, designating Tajudeen Abbas from Kaduna State as their preferred candidate.

"As firm believers in the authority of the party, under whose auspices we all hold various positions, we understand that there are times when the party's decisions align with our desires, bringing us satisfaction, and other times when they may differ, testing our loyalty and respect for the party.

"The APC has officially zoned the Speakership to the North West and has identified Hon. Tajudeen Abbas as its favored candidate. It is only logical for all party members in the National Assembly to honor and remain loyal to the party's decision," he said.

The Convener however, said that to their disappointment, they observed certain individuals who previously benefited from the party's allocation of positions, vehemently criticising and attempting to undermine the party.

He alleged that  they were forming a parallel decision-making process in collusion with opposition.

"We view this as unfortunate and unacceptable,"he lamented.

Speaking further, while fiunding it appalling, he alleged that Hon. Mukhtar  Betera, despite hailing from the same state as the Vice President, insisted on pursuing his ambition speakership of the National Assembly  contrary to the party's choice.

Amoke noted that It was essential to distribute leadership positions to other regions and states to ensure inclusivity.

He called upon the APC to take disciplinary action against Betera and his co-travellers.

"His refusal to comply with the party's decision warrants his expulsion, as we perceive the emergence of individuals reminiscent of Sarakis and Dogaras who previously challenged the party's authority. If Betera persists in defying the party's position, he will be deemed a saboteur and face appropriate consequences.

"It is high time the party take strict stands to ensure that it's resolves are respected by all it's members. Members must understand that the party is supreme and should not select the which of it's resolve to respect.

"The decision of the party concerning principal officers of the the 10th Assembly must be used as a litmus test to enthrone discipline in the party," Amoke said.

He therefore suggested that any member who sees him/her self above the party to be identified and made to serve appropriate punishment to serve as deterrent to others who may be intending to go against the party in whatever capacity.

"The party is supreme and must be seen on such light by all,"he  added.

He thanked the APC for addressing one of the two requests they presented regarding the zoning of the leadership of the National Assembly.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
