The National Orientation Agency (NOA) Kano State Directorate has intensified its sensitisation campaign against drug abuse through a radio programme on Premier FM 102.7 to mobilise stakeholders against the menace.
This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen by Kabiru Bala, Public Relations Officer, NOA, Kano State Directorate.
The programme sought to reawaken stakeholders to their collective responsibility in tackling rising drug abuse across Kano State, especially among youths affected by substance addiction and related social challenges.
Participants stressed the urgent need for parents, teachers, community leaders, government institutions, and relevant organisations to collaborate in addressing the growing menace threatening communities across the state.
Speaking during the programme, Hajiya Hauwa Adamu Garba, Head of Communication and Media, represented the State Director of the agency, Hajiya Mariya Bello Maikudi, during the anti-drug sensitisation engagement.
Garba described drug abuse as a serious threat to societal peace, youth development, and national progress, stressing that collective action and sustained sensitisation remained necessary to curb the growing menace.
The discussion also highlighted dangerous links between drug abuse, political thuggery, violence, and other criminal activities affecting communities, warning that many social vices were fuelled by substance abuse.
Other participants included Hajiya Zainab Bukar Abba, Head of Drug Abuse and Narcotics, Aisha Idris, Women Leader of the Nigerian Youth Organization, and Comrade Musa Ahmad Musa of the National Youth Council of Nigeria.
The participants called for stronger community engagement, improved parental guidance, and sustainable youth empowerment initiatives aimed at safeguarding young people from drug abuse and criminal influences across Kano State.
They also urged members of the public to support ongoing sensitisation campaigns and promptly report drug-related activities to appropriate authorities to strengthen efforts toward building a peaceful and drug-free society.
