KDSG trains 720 youths on tailoring, baking

The Kaduna State Government under its Ministry of Business, Innovation and Technology (MBIT) has trained 720 adolescent girls and boys in Kaduna North Local Government Area on vocational skills.


The beneficiaries were trained on tailoring and bakery for the duration of two months at the Vocational Training’ Centre ,Dalet Girls Secondary School, Kawo.


The programme was supported by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to address the high unemployment rate among youth in the state.


Starter packs were given to selected few who had demonstrated diligence and and excellence during the training.


The Commissioner, MBIT,Patience Fakai, said that the training was in line with Gov. Uba Sani’s SUSTAIN Agenda which has to do with empowering youths and women to become self-reliant.


Fakai, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Yusuf Saleh, urged the beneficiaries to utilise the opportunity to support themselves and their families.


 ” Gov. Uba Sani has the vision of economic empowerment and skills acquisition, that is why the three vocational and skills acquisition institutes were inaugurated.


“At the institutes, we hope to train N18,000 youths and women on various vocational skills annually,”she said.


Fakai explained that similar trainings would be extended to other local government areas of the state to promote inclusiveness and improve the economy.


Earlier, the Principal of the school, Zainab Tanimu, appreciated the ministry and its development partners for bringing the training to there, saying that  it would help young girls to be self-reliant.


She urged the state government to sustain the project so as to achieve economic empowerment and reduce unemployment in the state.


Some of the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the state government, saying that the training was an opportunity they have been longing for.


Fayina Ali, who learnt baking and received a started kit consisting of oven, mixer and manual grater, said she would make judicious use of the items and start up business immediately.


Another beneficiary, Abdullahi Hussain, who learnt tailoring, said he had been under someone for long trying to learn the skill, adding that the training exposed him to modern fashion.


“I have been under someone for long, this is the time to open my own fashion business and teach others who are interested in learning the skills,” he said.(NAN)
