The Kaduna State ministry of health has commenced distribution of treated mosquito nets ITNs)to about 1.8 million households in the state.
The Ministry's permanent Secretary Dr Aishatu Abubakar -Sadiq disclosed during a flagging off ceremony on Monday in Kaduna.
She said the exercise will be conducted in collaboration with Partners (National Malaria Elimination Program, Catholic Relief service, Society for family health and Malaria consortium ) .and will run from June 30 to July 3, 2025.
"The fight against malaria in Kaduna State has gained new momentum as the Kaduna State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and key development partners, officially flags off a statewide campaign against the deadly disease.
"At the heart of this campaign is the Integrated Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) and Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs) Mass Distribution Campaign, targeting over four million residents across all 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
"This life-saving initiative is being led by the Society for Family Health, in co-implementation with Malaria Consortium and Catholic Relief Services (CRS), with vital support from BASF, GRID3, and the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP).
She added that with strong political will, expert coordination, and active community participation, stakeholders are hopeful that the state will see a significant drop in malaria cases—and move closer to achieving malaria elimination.
She appreciated the Local Government Chairmen for thier support in health activities and appeals to them for continuous collaboration with state malaria programmes activities particularly social mobilisation and behavioural change communication amongst residents.
" It is only with right information and community ownership we can improve our health indices in the state.
She also called on citizens of the state to to support the intervention by making their children available for administration of drugs .
Health experts have welcomed the integrated strategy, describing it as critical to reducing malaria prevalence particularly among children under five, who are most at risk.
Dr. Temitope, representing Catholic Relief Services, called for stronger community engagement and sustained partnerships to drive the campaign's success.
Also speaking,The Project Director of Society for Family Health, Mr. John Ocholi, urged residents to verify that the number of ITNs received matches the quantity indicated on their e-token cards.
He stressed the importance of accountability in the distribution process.
In a welcome remark, the Chairman of Kaduna North Local Government Area, Hon. Rayyan Hussain, pledged the unwavering support of all 23 local government areas in the campaign against malaria.
He affirmed the commitment of local government chairmen of continuous awareness to raise the banner against malaria.
