The Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital in collaboration with MAMIA Seeds oil, on Thursday inaugurated an audiology/ speech therapy centre.
Speaking at the inauguration centre, the State Commissioner of Health, Umma Ahmed said the milestone represents the synergy between the government, private sector, and community in delivering impactful healthcare services for the people of Kaduna State.
She said hearing and speech impairments are often life-altering conditions, affecting communication, education, and social inclusion.
According to her, the Audiology and Speech Therapy Centre at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital would serve as a beacon of hope for individuals especially children who face hearing and speech-related challenges.
“With upgraded facilities and trained professionals, this centre will provide state-of-the-art diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative services. It is a critical addition to our healthcare infrastructure.
” It addresses an important yet often overlooked aspect of health—hearing and speech disorders.
“These challenges significantly impact the quality of life for individuals and families, and they require specialized care that was previously scarce in our region”she said.
She added that the modern equipment and specialized services now available in the hospital will not only reduce the burden on families but also ensure that the State becomes a hub for quality audiological and speech therapy services.
“It will address a significant gap in healthcare delivery and empower individuals to lead fulfilling and productive lives.
The commissioner appreciated Mamia Seed Oil Ltd for their generous support and commitment to community development.
She described the gesture as act of corporate social responsibility and a shining example of how the private sector can complement government efforts in improving the lives of citizens.

“This facility is a reflection of his administration’s determination to ensure that every citizen, regardless of background or location, has access to quality and specialized healthcare.
“Under his leadership, we have prioritized innovative and people-centered healthcare interventions, and today’s commissioning reflects his dedication to inclusive and equitable health services”.
She urged the healthcare professionals who will work in the centre to approach their duties with passion and dedication, ensuring that every patient receives compassionate and effective care.
She also thanked development partners and stakeholders, while assuring them of continued collaboration and support in advancing healthcare in the state.
“I encourage other private sector players to take inspiration from Mamia Seed Oil Ltd and explore ways to support health initiatives in their communities. Together, we can achieve more”,she said.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Amin Tabari said the centre has been upgraded to world class and fits to save countless life in the country.
Tabari said the centre is well equipped to provide comprehensive service for adults and children.
He added that the services will cater for patients both in the country and neighbouring countries.
He appreciated the trainees from Indian who were in the hospital for a month to train thier staff.
He also called on the Vice Chancellor of Kaduna state university to introduce BSC audiology as the centre is well equipped to global standard.
In another remark, Dr Abdullahi Mohammed, the Executive Director of the MAMIA Seeds, said the initiative came when the managing director sons had a problem with his ears and couldn’t find help in the country until he travelled abroad.
