NYCN express dismay over ravaging insecurity, worsening economy, hardship, calls on FG for urgent action

By Sani Idris

The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has expressed dismay over the ravaging spate of insecurity, worsening economy and hardship in Nigeria, while calling on the Federal Government to ensure urgent remedies to cushion the effects on its citizens.

The concerns, among others disheartening situations, were contained in a statement signed by Isah Abubakar, the National President ofn NYCN and made available to newsmen on Saturday in Kaduna.

Abubakar stressed that It is very disheartening the rate at which mass killings have skyrocketed in recent time in Northern Nigeria, indicating that the citizens have no choice but to forcefully live with the reality for the time being.

In spite of having both Ministers of Defence and Chief of Defence Staff from the same region (North-West), he said their presence have not shown any significant improvement with respect to curbing the security challenges facing the people of the region.

In his opinion, Abubakar said the people should be allowed to protect themselves, adding that it appeared the Government has failed in providing a basic constitutional requirement of securing the lives and properties of its citizens.

"It is clearer that the bandits operating in the North have overpowered the security operatives in the region, only the people can defend themselves. The katsina state Governor, has called on the people to defend themselves in recent time, we advise individuals to get armed and protect their communities and farms,"he said.

Further, the NYCN president lamented the difficult to cope with the current hike at the current price of PMS.

According to him, this has worsened the agony and state of abject poverty Nigerians were managing.

He noted that It is making life almost impossible.

He therefore said unless the present government addresses it, it is capable of causing a national scene.

He wondered why sometimes people compare Nigeria to countries that pay $16 to $18 per hour, adding that the government must understand that Nigeria is a third world country where taxation at the speed of other advanced countries won't help as the poverty headquarters of the world but would worsen things.

"IMF have no business with how our country should be run, but our leaders keep listening to IMF and implementing their anti-people policy against Nigerians. The government is known to make life better and easier for its citizens, but in our own case, it is different.

"Sometimes, I feel scared for the next generation because the mentorship we get from this group of leaders is that of dis-service to our people and personal growth, so tell me what the next generation stands to learn?".

Abubakar therefore appealed to the government to apply wisdom and fear of God, noting that the next wave of protest against bad governance is building up.

"The President should think twice in taking some critical decisions as we are sure that some groups of person in his government are working against him to lose the 2027 general election,"he said.
