Pulse.ng : FG Must Act Now: Borno Residents, IDPs Cry Out Over Flood Crisis, Asks Tinubu To Appoint Humanitarian Affairs' Minister

Concerned residents of Borno State and the leadership of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have called on the Federal Government to appoint a Humanitarian Minister to tackle the devastating flood that has ravaged the state.

The group noted that appointing a Humanitarian Minister, even at Acting Capacity to address the flood menace in the state is far more rewarding than setting up committees that may end up siphoning the money without tangible results.

In a press statement issued to newsmen in Kaduna on Tuesday by the Spokesperson, Concerned Residents of Borno State and Chairman of IDP, Mr. Dalori Ibrahim Bukar and Sani Yahaya Buratai, the group demanded that president Bola Ahmed Tinubu should appoint a humanitarian Minister, like the CEO of QAT Foundation, Hajiya Halimat Tejuosho who has a proven track record of Humanitarian gestures.

The group while commiserating with the government and people of Borno State over the devastating flood that had displaced thousands of persons alongside widespread destruction called for urgent intervention from the Federal Government to cushion the effects of the flood's aftermaths.

They equally called on Borno residents to be cautious of wild animals, as the flood has washed away animals from the state zoo, posing a threat to human safety.

“Our hearts go out to the government and people of Borno State, who have been beset by this unrelenting tragedy. We commiserate with the families who have lost loved ones, and with those who have been displaced and left destitute.

“In this moment of unprecedented need, we urge the Federal Government to eschew the temptation of establishing yet another committee, and instead, appoint a compassionate and experienced leader, Halimat Tejuosho Adenike, as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, even if only in an acting capacity.

“This is because we need a dedicated and empathetic hand to steer the ship of relief and recovery, not a bureaucratic committee that may only serve to delay and obfuscate.

“We are therefore calling on the Federal Government to expedite action without any further delay, to mobilize resources, and to deploy personnel to the affected areas.

“As the people of Borno State cannot afford to wait it is important for us to reiterate that the very survival of Borno people currently depends on the swift and decisive intervention of the government. We must act now, with all the urgency and compassion that this crisis demands." The group stated.
