The Personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Katsina command, have walked round some areas in the state to promote peace.
The walk, which took place in Katsina on Tuesday, was part of activities by the command to celebrate the 2024 International day of Peace.
The day is being celebrated on the Sept. 21 of every year, with ‘Cultivating a Culture of Peace’, as this year’s theme.
Addressing the gathering, the public relations officer of the command, DSC Buhari Hamisu, said the exercise was aimed to encourage people to live peacefully with one another.
According to him, during the exercise, the personnel campaigned, and also preached for peace and other various peace practices for the public.
He said that the NSCDC’s amendment act 2007, has empowered the corps with the power to arrange and mediate in the settlement of disputes among willing members of the public.
“With this, the peace and conflict resolution unit of the command, division and outpost, have mitigated a number of conflicts, ranging from interpersonal, marital, and farmers/herders clashes.
“This has assisted significantly in promoting peace, and a lot of people have been settled and continue with their normal activities and businesses,” he revealed.
Hamisu noted that the corps, under the leadership of its Commandant General, Dr Abubakar Audi, has renewed strategies in promoting peace, safety and security of the people.
According to the public relations officer, a lot of personnel have undergone different vocational training with the view to have more confidence and professionalism in handling conflicts.
Hamisu said that the corps has achieved a lot of successes significantly, especially in promoting peace through alternative dispute resolution.
He further said that the corps is also more committed towards promoting safety, security and peace among the people of the state and the country as a whole.
