Gov. Radda pledges better welfare for corps members in Katsina

By Abbas Bamalli

The Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Radda, has pledged his administration’s readiness to look into a better welfare for corps members deployed to the state.

The governor gave the assurance during the closing ceremony of the 2023 batch B stream one orientation course at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp, Katsina.

According to him, his administration attached greater importance to the wellbeing and future of the youths, saying that “their contribution to our coming to government cannot be overemphasised.

“We shall reciprocate this gesture by providing improvement in education, agriculture, empowerment and health sectors.

“Therefore, I also want to assure the corps members that your welfare will be looked into by this administration.

“I feel humbled with all modesty to announce that since coming into office, we have undertaken necessary measures aimed at restoring sanity in both state and local government administrations in the state.”

The governor further admonished corps members to be responsible and disciplined citizens of this great country, and implored them to dedicate themselves with their renewed vigor, conviction and commitment to the progress of the nation.

He also urged them to, at all times, dedicate themselves as agents of change and symbol of national unity and integration.

“You should build bridges across your religious and ethnic backgrounds by living peacefully with members of your host communities. This will bring about the overall socio-economic development of our national life.

“Perfect security can only come from the Almighty God and as such, wherever you may eventually find yourself, be security conscious and report any suspicious movement around you to the security agencies.

“I will enjoin you to take seriously the security tips contained in the pamphlets which have been packaged for you by the NYSC management.

“Also, you must not forget to practice what you have learnt about the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme,” he advised them.

According to him, for the post camp training, the state government has training centres where services could be rendered to corps members.

“I urge you to exploit these opportunities.”

Earlier in her welcome address, the state’s NYSC Coordinator, Hajiya Aisha Muhammad, commended the corps members for participating actively in the camp activities.

According to her, the posting of corps members has been carefully done to meet the needs of the state, particularly in providing support for education, agriculture, health and rural infrastructure sectors.

She urged the corps’ employers not only to accept them, but also to accommodate and assign them appropriate duties during the service year.

NAN reports that the Governor also commissioned a borehole in the camp, provided through the effort of the state's Coordinator.
