The Kaduna Youth For Good Governance (KYGG), has on Tuesday appealed to the National Assembly to reconsider its decision and confirm Nasir El-rufai as a minister.
Chairman of the KYGG, Comrade Aliyu Modibbo
who made the call in a statement issued to newsmen in Kaduna, stated that El-rufai should be confirmed due to the confidence the generality of people have on him.
The organization also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to use his office and intervene by taking into consideration the background of El-rufai towards the promotion of democratic development.
Modibbo stated that the nominated minister had proven track record of unity promotion through fostering an inclusive society and bringing together diverse communities for the greater good of Kaduna state.
“KYGG wish to equivocally register our displeasure and sadness over the recent developments that are ongoing at the National Assembly on the screening of Ministerial nominees by Mr. President , Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“As regards the nominee from Kaduna State, Mallam Nasiru Ahmad Elrufai, and the inability of red chamber to recommend him after duly screening him, where he was asked to take bow and leave.
“We in the KYGG are left in total disbelief over the turn of events where his name was withheld under the excuse that it was awaiting security clearance”,he said.
According to him, Elrufai’s name along with all others couldn’t have reached the red chambers without formally passing through the rigorous screening of all security mechanisms.
He noted that through out the tenure of Elrufa’i, he had restored peace in Kaduna State which was known for religious and Political violence.
He stated that the organization have been thrown into confusion and dilemma to the reasons making the rounds in the media that prompted the unexpected development, where his name was withheld.
Modibbo said that the narrow and unsubstantiated views including claims of empowering Fulani with arms to destroy southern Kaduna which could not be proven beyond reasonable doubt
was mere allegations perpetrated by few groups who were bittered politically.
He explained that the unanimous endorsement of El-rufai’s nomination by the three senators representing the state who are in the opposition party proved his selfless service to Kaduna.
“We wonder how senator from Kogi State, outside the North west zone, roused and claimed to be in possession of a weighty petition against Mallam Nasiru Ahmad Elrufai.
“Mallam Nasiru Elrufai was prepared to respond on the said petition, unfortunately, the senate president said that the issue of the petition should be put on hold”,he said
Modibbo called on petitioners against El-rufai’s nomination to desist from using political, religion and ethnic differences in thwarting El-rufai’s nomination but focus on his track record of great achievements in every leadership roles he held.
He also called on President Tinubu to swiftly intervene and ensure the Senate confirms Elrufai’s nomination, adding that El-rufai’s presence in the administration would be a big plus to the development of any sector he will minister and the nation at large.
