Katsina Govt. says it’s committed to enhancing environmental hygiene

The Katsina State Government says it will continue to accord the needed priority to all issues that are targeted at ensuring environment hygiene and sanitation in the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, Alhaji Aminu Tukur, disclosed this on Tuesday in Katsina.

Aminu spoke while receiving a delegation from the national office of “Clean Nigeria – Use The Toilet Campaign“ led by the National Coordinator, Mrs Opara Chizoma.

According to him, the administration of Gov. Dikko Radda is determined to accord the desired priority to existing programmes that have the objective of ensuring good hygiene among the people.

The permanent secretary informed the delegation that 24 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state had so far been declared “Open Defecation Free“.

He assured the delegation that his ministry would give all the needed support to the Clean Nigeria Project to enable it to achieve its set objectives.

Earlier, Mrs Chizoma said they were in Katsina State for a three-day visit to re-strategise in order to enhance the success of the project.

According to her, it will serve as an avenue to discuss with relevant stakeholders and implementing agencies on how best the programme will succeed in the state.

She appreciated the successes so far recorded by Wash Programme in the state and appealed for more commitment from the stakeholders.

In his remark, the state’s Coordinator of the Clean Nigeria Campaign who is also the Project Coordinator of SURWASH, Alhaji Isyaku Idris-Funtua, said a lot of success had so far been recorded.

Idris-Funtua restated the determination of all the relevant stakeholders to ensure the success of the project in the state.
