The Programme Officer of Kuka Centre, Kaduna, Rev. Fr. Onuh Ladi, on Saturday says women should take leading role in peace building in order to have a harmonious society.
Ladi made the remarks at a roundtable on the “Role of Women in Peace Building Efforts in Kaduna State”.
He said that the monthly interaction also highlights the importance of good upbringing, and peaceful elections.
The cleric said women as critical stakeholders in peace building, should be encouraged at all levels to contribute their quota to peacefully coexistence in the society.
“If there is any trouble in the society, women are the ones who bear the pain. If a man is killed, he is either a father of one girl, a husband of one woman or a son of another woman.
“The aim of the programme is to ensure that women take up the role in seeing themselves as critical stakeholders and play active role in bringing lasting peace in Kaduna State.”
Ladi however advised community members to keep aside their sentimens and support genuine efforts towards ensuring peace across the state.
“We are calling for an end to hypocrisy about peace building and living together.
“When the women decide to have meetings in  communities, markets, religious places and social places, we should keep away our bias and sentimens, we should
genuinely be intentional about peace building in the society,” he added.
Also, Catherine Didam of Women Interfaith Council, said women had since creation of the world, play critical role in the society.
“From that moment, the place of a woman in the society cannot be overemphasised, and their role in peace building can’t be numbered,” she said.
According to Didam, women bear the pains of crises at every point.
“When the men go for war, they are women husbands and children, therefore what ever the outcome of the war, the women bear the consequences.
“Unless women are brought into the core matter of peace building, there will still be lingering issues,” she added.
The Head of Gender and Family Support Unit of the Police Command in the state, DSP David Dominic, said women are gradually getting involved in crimes and called for strong campaign to engage women to keep away from criminality.
He said that women remained pivotal in building good homes and tranquil societies, as such should be supported in all efforts towards building peaceful communities in the state.
