PCC trains staff on investigation techniques, evidence gathering

The Public Complaints Commission (PCC), Kaduna State Office, on Wednesday began a five-day workshop to equip its staffers with modern investigation techniques and evidence gathering.

The State Director, Yusuf Isma’il -Numan, stated that staffers needed the training to sharpen their skills and broaden their perspective on the proper ways to carry out a successful investigation.

“Many staffers have been deployed to the commission and for them to be equipped with the modern techniques of investigation, they require this kind of training.

“I am urging all the participants to pay attention and ensure you understand the techniques being taught and after that put it into practice while discharging your duties,”he said.

While presenting a paper, Aisha Abdullahi, a Senior Lecturer, Department of Legal Studies, Kaduna Polytechnic, highlighted some administrative laws and the need to abide by them.

She stated that ombudsmen must listen to all the parties involved in a case and desist from being judges in cases they were involved in and urged them to strive to do the right thing.

Abdullahi stated that evidence presentation should be thoroughly checked and documents be kept safe, saying, ”in case the matter goes to court, the PCC has its own recommendations in them.”

She stated that there was the need for the staffers to look into new areas of evidence gathering such as electronically-generated evidence which would help them do their work better.

On their part, the participants commended PCC for organizing the training workshop, saying it would go a long way in boosting their performance.

Saleh Sulaiman, a Principal Investigation Officer, said the workshop was very impactful, adding they needed the training as a refresher and to learn new ways to efficiently discharge their work.

He said: “After the training, we will apply what we learnt into our daily routine as investigation officers; Definitely it will broaden our knowledge and increase our performance.”

Blessing Sulaiman, another staffer, said the training was timely, adding: ”This is because we have been anticipating it. We need it to boost our morale.

“This is a refresher training that will help us come back to the right track and understand the process more.

“We have been exposed to some legal aspects of our work and some investigation techniques that we can use to ease our work and get better results,”she said.(NAN)
