The President, Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association(DEPOWA), Mrs Oghogho Musa , says empowering women is an investment for the future of the country.
”Such noble gestures are not only of moral importance but also a strategic investment in the collective future of Nigeria,” she said,
Musa stated this at the Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria Officers Wives Association(DICONOWA), maiden ‘Women Empowerment Conference 2024’, on Tuesday in Kaduna.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme for the conference was ‘Empowering Women for Enhanced Support to the Home Front’.
NAN also reports that the conference is part of the activities lined up for the DICON at 60 celebrations.
She said, “When women are empowered, we become agents of change, driving process in our families, communities and societies.
“We become the backbone of our homes, providing love, care and support that fosters a nurturing environment. “
According to Musa, the theme for the conference resonated deeply with her, saying, because it aligns with my vision.
She said, “It is seeing women and girls become productive and contributors to family and a society driven by a deep sense of values and hard-working spirit.”
Musa, however, said that in spite of the significant contributions women make, they still face numerous barriers.
They include: Gender-based violence, unequal access to education and economic opportunities as well as discriminatory laws and policies.
” Therefore, it is crucial that we work together to create an enabling environment that allows women to thrive.
”As mothers, wives, professionals and caregivers, the task of balancing family, work and personal growth can be tasking and overwhelming.
” Thoughts of our dreams to be achieved start becoming distant because of the enormous responsibilities we find ourselves entangled with as women.
“I believe this conference will not only address women empowerment; it’s also about creating a more just and fair society for all to function, “Musa said.
The DEPOWA president also appreciated the Wife of the President and Founder, Renewed Hope Initiative, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, for her motherly inspiration and continuous guidance..
She also commended her hubby, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa for all his support in enhancing DEPOWA’s activities nationwide.
Earlier, the Coordinator of DICONOWA, Mrs Uduakobong Edet, urged the members to key into the industrial investment.
”This is to achieve our own institutional vision of providing succour to the less-privileged, among other humanitarian services.
Edet said with the signing of the DICON Act by President Bola Tinubu, the association now has the prospect to trigger development and contribute enormously in creating employment to the teeming youth.
“Today’s lectures will no doubt give us ideas on how to leverage DICON’s prospect as a military industrial complex to contribute our quota in the nation’s economic development while achieving the mandate of our association,” she said.
Edet enjoined the participants to take advantage of the golden opportunity to interact actively towards enhancing their capacity for the attainment of the set objective of the workshop.
“Lets us all look at various ways we can key into this strategic vision to assist the country and support our spouses as the Commanders of the home fronts.
” Our growth and development as an association indeed facilitates the stability of the home front.
”This motivates our spouses out there to discharge their constitutional mandate of defending the territorial integrity of Nigeria,” She said
