A former House of Representatives member, representing Wudil/Garko constituency of Kano State, Alhaji Muhammad Ali-Wudil, gave clothing materials to 1,174 orphans in the constituency on Sunday so they could prepare for Sallah.
The clothing materials were distributed to the orphans in Wudil and Garko Local Government Areas of the state under the umbrella of Alhaji Muhammad Ali-Wudil Foundation.
Chairman of the foundation, Alhaji Baffa Alhaji, said at the distribution that 758 of the beneficiaries were drawn from Wudil Local Government Area, While 416 were drawn from Garko Local Government Area.
He explained that the gesture was to make the beneficiaries feel joyous at Sallah like their peers who still have parents, adding that the foundation embarked on similar gesture more than 10 years ago.
“These children have lost their parents. Therefore, we find it necessary and very important to see how they can be assisted so that they can also feel among.
“If wealthy individuals and politicians can have such initiative to assist the less privileged and orphans, they will be able to put a smile on their faces, and also Almighty God will reward them.
“Clothing is one of the basic needs of humanity. Hence, giving out to the orphans who are mostly vulnerable is important. We also want them to look good during the festive period,’’ Alhaji said.
He added that the orphans had been benefitting from financial assistance and distribution of different food items since Ramadan fasting began.
Speaking at the distribution, Malam Babangida Ado, Director, Islamic propagation, Kano State Sharia Commission, reiterated the Islamic importance of helping orphans and widows.
He reminded Muslims to avoid personalising whatever belonged to orphans, insisting that doing such could lead to hell fire.
Ado commended Ali-Wudil for the gesture and called on other politicians and wealthy individuals to emulate him.
Represented by Alhaji Mukhtari Abba-Darki, the former lawmaker enjoined the beneficiaries to make proper use of the gesture and urged them to continue to pray for peace and unity of the country.
Some of the beneficiaries commended the gesture and assured of judicious use of the clothing materials.
They called on other wealthy individuals, successful business magnates, politicians and also governments to emulate the gesture.
