The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in collaboration with Kaduna State Ministry of Agriculture, on Friday trained 33 persons on animal health.

Mr Said Mimadi, State Head of ICRC, said at the training held at the College of Agriculture and Animal Science, Mando, that the participants were selected from communities with large livestock and hard to reach areas.

He said participants were drawn from Sanga, Lere, Kachia, Kaura and Jema’a local government areas of the state.

Mimadi said the trained personnels would be working with other communities and serving as training officers.

”The training is a refresher one based on the mandate of the organisation.

“This training started in 2019. We trained and monitored them and we are here conducting a refresher one in order to hand them over.

”After the training the participants will be provided with tools to support them so that they can act independently.

“This is the third training we are conducting, the last one we conducted the participants were supported with drugs and animal tools,” he said.

Also speaking, Dr Usman Baba, the Livestock Officer of ICRC, said the training was part of the curriculum of veterinary practice.

He said the curriculum was well followed and would make the beneficiaries good in their practice as they have followed the rudiments of the course.

Baba urged them to be serious, respect the ethics, as the communities will be looking up to them.

He also called on the communities to support the project by patronising those trained and paying for services rendered by them.

Dr Haruna Nok, Principal Veterinary Officer, State Ministry Of Agriculture, commended the programme and urged the participants to make use of it.

Ms Blessing Andrew, speaking on behalf of the participants, thanked the organisers and assured that they would make good use of what they had learnt. (NAN)

N42bn probe: Obiano diverted state funds for political activities - EFCC source

Obiano is currently being grilled at the EFCC Headquarters over alleged misappropriation of N42bn belonging to Anambra state.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has alleged that the former Governor of Anambra state, Willie Obiano, diverted the state funds for political activities.

According to an authoritative source in the EFCC, Obiano was being questioned for alleged misappropriation of N5 billion Sure-P and N37 billion security vote, withdrawn in cash.

The source, who spoke with NAN in Abuja on Saturday, March 19, 2022, also said that part of the funds were allegedly diverted for political activities by the former governor.

The EFCC had said on Friday, March 18, 2022, that Obiano was in its custody facing interrogation on how he managed the state finances as the governor.

Recall that Obiano was arrested around 8:30pm on Thursday night at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, as he prepared to get on a flight to Houston, Texas in the United States.

His arrest came hours after he handed over to Prof. Chukwuma Soludo as the Anambra state governor.

The commission then transferred him to its headquarters in Abuja where he is currently being questioned.

EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, had said on Friday that “The former governor is currently in our custody undergoing interrogation and I cannot say exactly when he will be released. I don’t know how long the exercise will take.

“All I can tell you now is that he is still in the EFCC custody in Abuja,” he said.

Another EFCC source also told Daily Trust that the commission is in possession of documents that show how Obiano withdrew monies from the state's coffers for his personal use.

“The commission has obtained different documents showing how he withdrew some monies from the state’s purse for personal use. He would have to shed more light on that, among other explanations,” the sources told the newspaper.

The anti-graft agency had placed the former governor on its watchlist since November, 2021.

The EFCC had requested the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to alert it anytime Obiano is traveling out of the country from any international airport, as well as other points of entry and exit.
