The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has appealed to the incoming 10th Senate to zone the position of the senate president to the North-West, pointing to Sen. Barau Jibril as the right candidate to occupy the exalted seat.
The appealed was made in a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday in Kaduna by Comrade Isah Abubakar, NYCN President.
He explained that the council’s call came at a time when political stakeholders were jostling for positions in the incoming 10th National Assembly.
“It is expected that the APC leadership will take into consideration the various interests and aspirations of its members as it makes decisions on zoning and leadership positions,” he said.
Appealing to the APC to zone the Senate Presidency to the North-West, Abubakar also called on other Senators-elect to support Jibril who is from Kano State to emerge as the nation’s number three citizen.
According to him, Jibril’s wealth of experience and track record made him the perfect choice for the position.
“We believe that Jibril’s leadership qualities and commitment to the development of Nigeria will enable him to effectively steer the affairs of the senate,” he said.
Abubakar said that zoning the senate presidency to the North-West would not only promote equity and fairness but also help to strengthen the party’s support base in that region.
He described Jibrin as a seasoned and experienced lawmaker who has demonstrated commitment to the nation’s development.
“We believe that he will make an excellent senate president and we urge all senators-elect to support his candidacy.
Abubakar urged the APC to consider the political and economic importance of the North-West region in Nigeria’s political landscape.
He said that zoning the nation’s number one legislative seat to North-west would open more development prospects for the nation. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
