The Nigerian Army, on Monday began a five-day Leadership Awarenesses and Development Course for Senior Non-Comissioned Officers (SNCo) of 1 Division, Kaduna.
The course was organised by Army Headquarters Department of Army Training and the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC).
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya, represented by the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Maj.-Gen.Taoreed Lagbaja, explained that the course was to bridge leadership gap between subalterns and young soldiers.
He added that the course was packaged with contemporary modules on leadership.
Yahaya said that the course was aimed at enhancing creativity and critical thinking skills amongst personnel so as to enable them adapt and confront evolving security challenges facing the country.
He also noted that as leaders in their level, the SNCo’s ability to think fast and exercise command and control of troops placed under them was paramount to the success, growth and development of the army and
the country at large.
He urged the participants to take advantage of the opportunity to upscale and develop their leadership skills, in order to discharge their duties more responsibly.
The COAS said they should key into his vision of having “a professional Nigerian Army ready to accomplish assigned missions within a joint environment in the defence of
Nigeria”.
Yahaya also implored them to exhibit high level of commitment, enthusiasm, and discipline throughout the duration of the course.
He thanked the Principal Staff Officers from the AHQ, the NARC training team and facilitators for making the course a reality. (NAN)
