NGO trains 600 young women as birth attendants in Kaduna

 A Non-Governmental Organisation, (NGO) Womenhood foundation of Nigeria has trained no fewer than 600 young women in Kaduna as birth attendants.


The Coordinator of the Foundation  in Kaduna, Malam Abdulhadi Abdullahi, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Friday  in Kaduna.


Abdullahi said  the NGO had trained the youths on  different skills  acquisition programmes ranging from health aspects  which included training as birth attendants, dental health technicians, health information managers and environmentalists. 


Others include barbing salons for young boys and make-ups for the girls, among others. 


 Abdullahi noted that the aim of the training was to empower and reduce high rate of unemployment among the youths in the society in  compliment to the efforts of the governments at all levels. 


He said the training was mostly for young people who graduated from 'secondary schools'. 


"like the train of  birth attendants is mostly for girls; after the training period we send them to primary health care centres, private clinic to undergo some practical aspects under our supervision. 


 "We also  access to see  if they are fit to practice, if they are, we allow them to go and practice in their areas of residence", he said. 


According to  him, those that were trained in different aspects were  offered some monetary assistance  ranging from  N100, 000 to N200, 000 to enable them go back to their places of residence and practice what they learnt, most especially remote villages that lacked enough health workers.


Abdullahi explained that the barbing salon training  which was mainly for  young boys from age 17- 30 years undergone three months training and at the end, they go back to set up their business. 


"We make sure we assist them set up their shops to operate, including the make-up  artists", he said . 


 NAN reports that the foundation has a monitoring team that usually visit the  hospitals to monitor successes, progress and challenges faced by those who were trained in other to offer assistance.(NAN)

BUA Cement Company has donated a school, hospital and other infrastructures worth N230 million to two relocated communities, Gidan Bailu and Gidan Datti, in Wamakko local government area of Sokoto state.

In handing over the facilities to the Wamakko local government chairman, Alhaji Halliru Guiwa, on Saturday, at the new settlement named Sabon Gidan Bailo, the Managing Director of BUA Cement, Alhaji Yusuf Binji, said that the facilities were part of company’s promise to the communities.

Binji said the donated facilities comprised a school, with two blocks of classrooms, an administrative block, township mosque, a clinic, two boreholes, a 30 KVA electricity transformer, township electrification installations and a cemetery.

The Managing Director commended the state, local governments, as well as the host communities, for the cordial relationship with the company, which had led to the provision of land for its activities.

According to him, the facilities were also meant to complement the efforts of the state government in enhancing people’s lives and facilitate a conducive environment for the relocated citizens to dwell in good living conditions.

Responding, Guiwa thanked the company for the effort, describing it as distinct in the history of relations between a commercial company and its host communities.

Guiwa urged the people to consider themselves lucky for having the BUA Cement company in their communities, in view of its immense contributions to the communities’ development.

He appealed for more in terms of employment for community members, especially youths, as well as the construction and upgrading of other infrastructures in the area.

Also speaking on behalf of the communities, the Ward Head of Kalambaina, Sardauna-Abdullahi Ahmad, thanked the company for its efforts and expressed his optimism that they would improve the wellbeing of the citizens.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the company had earlier built schools, offered scholarships, distributed school uniforms, trained women on business skills and supported health facilities in the host communities as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.
