Mr Bosan Yakusak, Chairmanship aspirat for Southern Kaduna Journalist' Forum (SKJF)
Mr Bosan Yakusak, a candidate for Chairman of the Southern Kaduna Journalists Forum (SKJF), has unveiled a five-point blueprint aimed at strengthening journalism, members’ welfare and information dissemination in the region.
Yakusak, in his manifesto titled “The LINK² Blueprint: One House, One Voice, One Future,” said his aspiration was not merely to occupy a leadership position but to build a stronger, united and professionally driven institution.
He said the blueprint was anchored on Leadership, Information, Networking, Knowledge and Kinship, describing the five pillars as a practical roadmap for transforming the forum and improving the working conditions of its members.
Under the Information pillar, Yakusak pledged to establish Southern Kaduna TV, a dedicated YouTube and social media broadcasting network, while laying the groundwork for a Southern Kaduna Radio station.
He said the platforms would provide members with opportunities to syndicate investigative reports, cultural features and breaking news, while enabling Southern Kaduna to tell its own stories and reach audiences across Nigeria and the world.
Yakusak also proposed an Information Modality Desk, which would serve as a central digital repository for reliable and verified data and contacts to support accurate, timely and competitive journalism.
On welfare and safety, he promised to establish the SKJF Care Unit, a dedicated support mechanism for journalists facing medical emergencies, financial hardship or legal challenges arising from their professional duties.
According to him, the initiative is designed to ensure that no journalist in the forum is left to face critical personal or professional challenges alone.
He added that the Care Unit would extend its activities beyond journalists through periodic outreach and relief programmes for indigent members of the Southern Kaduna community, stressing that journalists were part of the society they reported on.
On capacity building, Yakusak pledged to partner with media institutions to provide specialised training in modern reporting, digital security and data journalism, while helping members access local and international journalism grants.
Under the Networking pillar, he proposed an Annual Southern Kaduna Media and Culture Colloquium to bring together journalists, community leaders and artists to promote the region’s cultural heritage, strengthen unity and discuss issues affecting its people.
He also promised stronger partnerships with national professional bodies and other stakeholders to improve the recognition, protection and opportunities available to journalists working in Southern Kaduna.
On leadership, Yakusak pledged proactive advocacy and transparent governance, promising to engage government officials, security agencies and civil society organisations on issues affecting journalists and access to information.
He said the ultimate objective of the LINK² Blueprint was to create a professional body capable of protecting the messenger while amplifying the message, stressing that “by empowering the journalist, we are empowering Southern Kaduna.”
Yakusak urged members to support the blueprint and make an informed choice in the forthcoming election, saying the date would soon be announced by the appropriate electoral and screening committee after completion of the necessary processes.
He called on members to embrace the vision of “One House, One Voice, One Future”, urging them to vote for the LINK² agenda for a stronger, united and welfare-oriented SKJF.
The Electoral Committee for the SKJF had earlier slated September, 30th, 2026 for the election to be held in Kaduna.
