The Peace Walk was to promote non-violence and gender-inclusive peacebuilding.

The celebration underscores the critical role that women play in fostering a peaceful society.

It is also in recognition of the Ministry of Human Services and Social Development's outstanding leadership in the development and implementation of Kaduna state WPS which is a key activity of GAT SPRiNG project Activity.

The walk, which started from Magajin Gari through Katsina and Lagos Street roundabout, culminated at the Ministry of Human Services and Social Development, which gave GAT the opportunity to appreciate the Commissioner, Hajiya Rabi Salisu who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Hayatudeen Ahmad.

The appreciation, was to show gratitude to the excellent work the Ministry is doing which gave the opportunity to strengthen GAT ongoing collaboration and partnership.

The peace walk, underscored the role of women as critical actors in preventing conflicts, promoting dialogue, and strengthening community resilience.

Speaking after the walk at the Kaduna State Ministry for Human Services and Social Development, the Director of Gender Awareness Trust, Dr. Lydia Umar, emphasized that true peace cannot thrive in exclusion.

“Gender Awareness Trust recognizes that true peace cannot be achieved when voices are silenced and when women, young people, and marginalized groups are left behind.

“We must continue to amplify these voices and ensure that inclusivity remains at the heart of peace building," Dr Umar said.

She commended the Commissioner of Human Services and Social Development for her visionary leadership, particularly in implementing the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda through the Kaduna State Action Plan.

Dr Umar noted that the Commissioner’s efforts demonstrated a practical commitment to translating policies into meaningful impact on communities.

Responding, the commissioner,  Hajiya Rabi Salisu, represented by the ministry's Permanent Secretary, said Kaduna state under the leadership of the state governor, Sen. Uba Sani remains committed in ensuring women participation in peace building.

She added that women's  role in peace building cannot be overemphasized.

Newsmen reports that participants in the peace walk, described the event as both symbolic and timely, stressing that women must remain at the center of peace processes if Nigeria is to overcome its complex security challenges.

The International Peace Day, observed globally on September 21 each year, serves as a reminder of the urgent need for collective action to address conflict, intolerance, and injustice, while fostering a culture of peace and harmony.
