UNION DICON SALT (UDS), the country's foremost iodized salt, has made a grand comeback to the market after a 21-year absence.
The relaunch ceremony took place on Monday, August 4, 2025, at the Kirikiri Light Terminal, Phase II, Apapa, Lagos.
The event was graced by the Director General of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), Maj Gen BI Alaya, who represented the Chairman of UDS, Gen TY Danjuma GCON (rtd).
Maj Gen Alaya revealed that Gen Danjuma had ordered the reactivation and expansion of UDS, tasking him to come up with requirements for the salt company to assume its leadership position in the industry.
The Acting Managing Director, Barrister Mrs Florence Iroye, expressed gratitude to the DG, past DGs, and other stakeholders for their team spirit and cooperation.
She highlighted the challenges faced by UDS, including its shutdown in 2004, but noted that the dream of reviving the company never died.
The DG later commissioned the UDS factory, praising the management for their hard work and resilience.
He challenged workers to work hard for a better future and prayed for the Chairman's long life to continue his good works.
Attendees were impressed by the factory's neat layout and state-of-the-art facilities during the facility tour.
Notable speakers praised the Chairman's passion and contribution to reviving UDS, with a board member summarizing the journey as a "dead man resurrected back to life" through the Chairman's vision and support.
