As part of the activities marking the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2025, the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA), has inaugurated a Crèche and Nursery School, along with shuttle tricycles and Shelter Stuttle in Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna.
Speaking at the event, the President of NAOWA, Mrs Bilkisu Ibrahim, described the project as a bold step toward improving the welfare and education of children in military communities.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)reports that she was represented by Mrs Mernan Oluyede, the association’s Deputy President.
Oluyede said, “The initiative, led by the Chairperson, NAOWA 1 Division chapter, Mrs Ada Saraso, features modern classroom blocks, a playground, and the newly Inaugurated school consists of two fully furnished blocks, a playground, and other child-friendly facilities.
“Also inaugurated were two shuttle tricycles and a waiting shelter to ease pupil’s transport within the cantonment.”
She said in addition to the school project, NAOWA extended humanitarian support to 120 widows of fallen heroes and conducted a medical outreach to over 300 beneficiaries, including wounded soldiers and pregnant women.
Oluyede reaffirmed NAOWA’s commitment to service, unity, and family support, thanking the Chief of Army Staff for his continuous backing.
In her remarks, Chairperson NAOWA 1 Division, Mrs Ada Saraso, described the event as a significant milestone in the association’s commitment to improving the welfare of families within the military community.
She welcomed Oluyede, praising her visionary leadership and support.
“These projects reflect our collective dedication to the core values of NAOWA which are service, compassion, and support for families within the Nigerian Army.
“We undertook this initiative with a clear vision to create a conducive learning space that reflects both dignity and care, and to strengthen the educational foundation of our children.
“The shuttle tricycles are also conceived to aid transport of pupils to and from school as well as the movement of the larger military community within the Cantonment.
“This transport system consists of two new tricycles for a start and a Shuttle Stop.
“The newly constructed Shuttle stop within the school premises will act as shelter for the pupils while waiting for their parents/guardians to pick them up. It is envisaged that the shuttle system will be expanded with time, “Saraso said.
She expressed profound gratitude to the the president for her continued commitment to the welfare of military families.
Saraso thanked her husband, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, for his unwavering support toward the realization of the projects.
NAN also reports that the highlights of the inauguration were unveiling of the additional classrooms, the tricycles and the shelter shuttle.
