The Inter-Tribal Association of Nigeria (ITAN) has condemned in totality, the political witch hunt against former Governor of Kogi State Alh Yahaya Bello Adoza CON.
The Association made the condemnation in a press statement signed by Amb. Ibrahim Tanimu, spokesperson of the Association and made available to newsmen in Kaduna.
Tanimu said the Association, out of concern, has noticed In recent time, a trend of political witch hunts targeting former Governors with otherwise impeccable records.
“Th EFCC should have fesr of God while discharging their duties and not allow the enemies of Nigeria use them in bringing down people of high reputation and integrity like Yahaya Bello Adoza.
“His career and personal lives are often irreparably damaged, and the emotional and psychological trauma can be long-lasting.
“n many cases, such incidence may never fully recover from the ordeal, despite being ultimately vindicated.
“This insidious practice not only tarnishes the reputations of the former Governors but also undermines the very foundation of justice and fairness in our society,” Tanimu said.
Tanimu also noted that corruption was a serious issue that required diligent and thorough investigation, adding, “when political agendas drive these investigations, innocent people often become casualties in a dangerous game of power and manipulation.
“Instead of focusing on legitimate cases of corruption, political witch hunts perpetuate a culture of fear and paranoia, where even the most upstanding citizens can become targets.
“The impact of these witch hunts is devastating, not only for the serving or former Governors involved, but for the public’s trust in the justice system as a whole.
“When Governors are brought under undue scrutiny, it sends a chilling message to the public that anyone, regardless of their character and integrity, can be unfairly targeted for political gain”.
The Spokesperson, however, said that It was imperative that an end be put to the destructive practice and uphold the principles of justice and fairness.
“We must demand that investigations into corruption are conducted with integrity and impartiality, free from political interference and personal vendettas.
“Additionally, those who engage in these witch hunts must be held accountable for their actions, in order to deter future abuses of power.
“In conclusion, political witch hunts on corruption have no place in a just and democratic society.
“People like Yahaya Bello with impeccable records should not be sacrificed at the altar of political expediency.
“It is essential that we stand up against these witch hunts and demand a system that upholds fairness and due process for all.
“Only then can we ensure that the Yahaya Bello Adoza CON is protected and that justice is truly served to him as he served the country diligently as a sacrifice to the nation.
“Finally, ITAN is calling the EFCC to stop attacking the reputation of Yahaya Bello for no concrete reason instead, honour him for selfless service to the nation mostly on security and fight against injustice and corruption in the country
