The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, says the game of golf and training in the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) help to inculcate integrity in the cadets.
Musa, represented by AVM Nkem Aguiyi, Chief of Defence Transformation and Innovation, said this at the NDA golf tournament which was one of activities organised to commemorate the academy’s 60-year anniversary.
Describing the NDA as the training meal for every Nigerian military officer, Musa added that integrity was a key attribute of any sound military officer.
“It entails the ability to do the right thing even when not supervised.
“Similarly, the game of golf, which doesn’t have a referee or supervisor, therefore expects one to play the game according to the rules and do the expected.”
The CDS added that golfing and training in NDA have a synergy in inculcating into cadets the ability to have the integrity to do the right thing when no one was looking.
”This is in knowing that they are doing it in the interest of the nation and humanity at large,” he added.
Musa felicitated the NDA on its 60th anniversary, adding that it had produced a lot of military officers who laid down thier lives and toiled so hard to keep the country together.
The CDS urged the management of the academy to continue moving along the good trajectory of producing officers that have the interest of Nigeria at heart.
Also, the academy‘s Commandant, Maj.-Gen. John Ochai, said cadets who were produced in the academy were in conformity with the modern trend in technological innovation in modern warfare.
He explained that modern warfare had changed and would continue to change.
Ochai, however, said that cadets of the NDA were provided with the skills and tools to adapt to the changes in technology and socio-economic environment.
According to him, issues of technology and security globally have changed.
He urged that for the Armed Forces of Nigeria to adapt to those changes , the NDA must conform and train cadets to adapt accordingly.
Speaking further, the commandant said the academy was prepared before now to ensure that the officers it produced were ready to conform with those changes.
”We will ensure that technologies available in the world are adopted in our training,” Ochai said. (NAN)
