A group, Northern Solidarity and Peace Initiative Forum(NSIF), has commiserated with families and victims of Tudun Biri village accidental drone attack by the Nigerian Army.
It also urged the government to ensure diligent investigation and the payment of due compensation to the victims.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the accidental drone attack by the Nigerian Army, led to the death of scores of innocent citizens observing Maulid at Tudun Biri, Igabi LGA of Kaduna state on Sunday.
Addressing a press briefing on Thursday in Kaduna, Sabiu Barau, the Coordinator of the group, lamented that over the years, the Northern part of Nigeria had witnessed a series of such attacks that were tagged to be “mistakes’.
“These attacks were mostly on the innocent souls in several cases; we recall on 17th January, 2017, in a village of Kala Balge Local Government of Borno, same incident occurred that claimed many lives
“Again, on the 5th September, 2021, drones were also mistakenly shot on a small village in Yobe that claimed the lives and injured many,.” Barau lamented.
He also recalled that in April 2020, the same scenario occurred where the Nigerian Army attacked some citizens both women and children in the same Borno and Zamfara, Benue, Yobe and Chad border, among others.
Barau also stressed that the rate at which such unfortunate attacks happen was becoming too alarming and disturbing.
He, therefore, said as concerned citizens, they condemned in totality such recurrent ugly incidents, adding.”the lives of every common citizen matters.
”Everyone must accept the fact that the security of our lives and properties is the topmost priority of the government of the federation.”
The coordinator called on the Federal and Kaduna State Governments as well as other concerned authorities to take the issue with topmost sincerity in ensuring that justice is done in accordance with the law of the nation.
Barau also called on both the Federal and State Governments to be fully responsible for the treatment, welfare and all other logistics necessary for the injured victims, while doing everything humanly possible to save their lives.
“The parents and relatives of the bereaved victims should be substantially compensated for this trauma they have endured,”the coordinator said.
Barau further called on the government to ensure ways to further prevent recurrence of such tragic incidents, commending the quick response of the Kaduna State Government, whilst looking forward to them acting on the group’s appeal.
He prayed God to forgive the souls and shortcomings of the deceased and give their relatives and families the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable losses, while wishing the injured ones speedy and healthy recovery.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
