Insecurity: Commander eulogises synergy among armed forces

By Mohammed Tijjani

The Corps Commander Infantry, Maj-Gen. Victor Ezugwu, on Thursday, lauded the synergy among the Nigeria Armed Forces towards tackling insecurity in the country.

Ezugwu said this at the inauguration of Phase 1 of the newly constructed Obstacle Apparatus, at the special warfare wing training of the Nigerian School of Infantry (NASI), Jaji, in Kaduna.

“We understand our enemies much better than we used to. The synergy among the armed forces is at its peak now.

“The leadership of the armed forces from the Chief of Defence Staff to the service chiefs, are more than ever determined to support the fighting elements, to deliver decisive victory for Nigeria,” he said.

Ezugwu said the Nigerian army would get it right because, over the years, they have been involved in the fight against insurgency at different theatres, within the country.

He said that they are reviewing their strategies because situation had called for it.

According to him, the personnel at the operational command and those heading the various theatres of operation, are in one accord towards getting it right.

“Nigerians have been patient and supportive enough to us.

“We are saying that the strategy is changing in the infantry. Infantry is the Queen of the battle and largest component of the Nigerin Army.

“The game of tactics is going to be a changer,” he said.

He thanked the NASI Commandant for the initiative and his supportive team of officers, who brought out new ideas of empowering the troops to get it right.

The commander called on all stakeholders to work towards defeating insurgency and more collaboration, synergy and useful information from Nigerians.

He said that Jaji and its environs has been free of crime and terror for about a month now due to the robust synergy adding, “we are getting it right there and in other theatres of operation especially the North East.

Also speaking, Maj-Gen. Gadzama Ali, NASI Commandant, said the support of the Infantry Corps Commander, would bring victory in the fight against terrorism.

He said the training curriculum in NASI was introduced because of his 13 years experience in school as a teacher.

“I have been in this wing for five years. I have seen the theatre and the difficult terrain we operate in, so the troops need to be trained on how to encounter enemy threats.

“With the modern trend, and improved training facilities, we need to restrategise to be able to meet up with the current challenges,” Ali said. (NAN)

Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has denied purchasing aircraft to support a campaign for him to contest the presidency in 2023.

On Wednesday, February 23, 2022, it was reported that the CBN governor had bought “three airplanes” for his presidential campaign, and that he had also been asked to resign from his position.

However, the CBN governor, who opened a new Twitter account, denied the claim on Wednesday.

“Fake news,” he tweeted in response to the report.

The report also stated that Emefiele has allocated about N500 billion for his presidential ambition, leveraging his edge as the manager of the country’s most critical financial institution.

The report further stated that a cabal led by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, was strongly behind the push for Emefiele to succeed Buhari, ahead of other strong contenders in the party.

This report comes weeks after The Green Alliance, a coalition group, asked Emefielie to contest for the 2023 presidency.

Speaking during a press conference in Lagos on Saturday, February 12, 2022, Wale Fapounda, convener of the group, said the country needs a technocrat that can handle the affairs of the country.

The group added that the CBN governor understood global economic growth and would compel him to accede to its request to run for the presidency under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
